Hello everyone!
Today, we visited the Google headquarters in NYC! It was a really exciting and informative experience! We toured the building, got to the see work spaces and common areas like the game room, ate delicious food from the cafeteria and participated in a panel where Google employees answered our questions about the tech industry and what it’s like to work for such an amazing company. We also learned about the strides Google is making in closing the gender disparity in the tech industry and their efforts in improving diversity and inclusion in the workplace. Several photos of the trip will be attached below!
Tomorrow is the last day of the XX Coders camp. It has been an amazing past two weeks, full of having fun learning programming languages such as Scratch, Python, JavaScript and Java. We learned today during the panel at Google that their software engineers use Python, JavaScript and Java, the very languages the students learned at the camp, to write the code for the powerful applications we use on a daily basis. We hope that the students take what they learned here and continue to grow their love for computer science and become future innovators of technology.
Due to the success of the summer session, XX Coders will continue the camp program during the school year beginning October 2017. To continue delivering meaningful computer science education and fun programming like talks with industry professionals and trips like the one to Google, we are actively seeking sponsorship. It would be extremely helpful and appreciated if parents could take the time to write a testimony of the impact that XX Coders has had in their child’s life.
Lastly, we will end tomorrow on a festive note! We ask that all students get ready by 11:30 a.m. for pick-up. We will meet at the Center at 12:00 p.m. for catered lunch! There will also be a videographer on site to film interviews with students and instructors as well as to film the camp for the XX Coders website.
Please make sure to wear your XX Coders camp t-shirts tomorrow!
Signing off–a girl who codes,
Aditi Patil
