Hello Parents and Students!
Today to start off our second day of camp we were able to enjoy our lunches while the computers were being set up with the helpful website Scratch! Most of the students were able to understand the processes of Scratch and even had accounts already set up! On the first day of our 2019 camp we animated our names in different colors, shapes, and backgrounds to have individual name tags. However, today during our second session with Scratch the girls were able to create a balloon party. Diana asked the girls why the functions that were used in the code making were necessary for the output. With most questions answered by the girls themselves, Diana related the coding logic to day by day websites and/or activities that the girls play or participate in at home. Some of the girls even came up to the projected laptop to show the entire class what they got for their different colored balloons and different commands for their balloon popping strategies. Other functions, if-else statements, and commands were used in order to create a finalized piece of code that resulted in the different balloons to pop with sound-effects, changing of colors, a score bar that updated each time you popped a balloon, and a timer! With interactive fun games made through coding, the girls seem to enjoy their results of the activities they did themselves on Scratch.
