The girls in this club work on fun activities through Google CS First and Code academy in order to learn Scratch, HTML, CSS, and a multitude of other computer languages. More than a club, these girls are family, and do everything together from the Night Of Code event in Half Hollow Hills’ middle school to enrolling in a 24-hour hackathon in New York City to hosting bake sales to raise money for the club.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”” el_class=”program-sec”][vc_single_image image=”3055″ img_size=”large”][vc_raw_html 0=””]JTNDaDMlM0VYWCUyMENvZGVycyUyMGF0JTIwV3lhbmRhbmNoJTNDJTJGaDMlM0U=[/vc_raw_html][vc_column_text 0=””]During this summer, the XX Coders are hosting a camp in the town of Wyandanch to teach girls how to code. There previously had been a Girls Who Code program at Wyandanch but it was discontinued due to very few girls who signed up. XX Coders hopes to change that by promoting the education of computer science and the fun it brings to our lives. In order to close the gender gap that exists in the computer science, the XX Coders summer camp is a 10 day program that aims to teach high school girls about the wonders of computer science. By learning about CS, these girls can be immersed in the very technologically-driven world we live in where any job requires knowledge in STEM. XX Coders plans to have this camp run every summer for several years to come![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”” el_class=”program-sec”][vc_single_image image=”3015″ img_size=”medium”][vc_raw_html 0=””]JTNDaDMlM0VYWCUyMENvZGVycyUyMGFuZCUyMFNFUFRBJTNDJTJGaDMlM0U=[/vc_raw_html][vc_column_text 0=””]This part of XX Coders is unique because it does not deal with only girls but rather another underrepresented group of people in computer science: people with special abilities. With the cooperation of the school district’s Special Education Parent Teacher Association (SEPTA), the girls of the XX Coders work one-on-one in conjunction with young children who are on the autism spectrum. The experience has been rewarding to all and as the organization continues to grow for years to come, so will this branch of XX Coders.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
